Sight test

National guidelines for eye tests

Children aged 15 years and under – every 6 – 12 months

People aged 16-69 years – every 2 years

People aged over 70 years – every year

People with diabetes or glaucoma  – every year

Adults over the age of 40 years who have an immediate family member with glaucoma every year

NOTE: These are guidelines, if you have something wrong with your eye health or vision, your optometrist may want to see you sooner to monitor your eyes

At Midlands Eye Care, we offer a basic sight test and a standard sight test. These are described below:

MEC Standard test (NHS test with enhanced testing – you pay £20) / private test fee: £55

  • NHS test as above, AND:
  • Goldmann applanation tonometry for pressures (hospital method, not air-puff)
  • Pachymetry/corneal topography – assessing your corneas (the clear window of your eyes)
  • Anterior chamber angle imaging – making sure the eye is draining well on the inside
  • Macula OCT – a full thickness scan through the retina to identify hidden problems

SAVES £125 (when compared to individual tests being purchased separately if during a test we find you need them)

Basic NHS test (free)/ basic private test (£35): A test without standard imaging or visual fields.

Includes:

  • 30-min in depth eye exam with a full discussion of results and plan of care
  • Refraction
  • Binocular vision check
